From the start, I was destined to be an artist...
I was born into a family filled with artsy types. Some make a living doing it and others creating artwork for personal pleasure. All through my early years in school, Art classes were my most enjoyable and I appreciated those teachers who taught me the basic principles. They encouraged me to use those lessons to begin and follow my own creative path. In elementary school I also took extra art courses on the weekend at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY, where I am from originally, and where my journey began. It continues to evolve and grow like branches on trees.
Perspective drawing techniques were especially intriguing to me from early on. Something about capturing angles in architecture is both challenging and beautiful to observe and even more-so to create. Some of my most influential instructors and mentors were at the School of Visual Arts, NYC. One of my favorite, and most challenging courses, was "Drawing on Location" which took us around the city to draw the architectural marvels of New York. The artist/professor for this course, John Ruggeri, and others at SVA challenged me to develop my own styles while exposing me to different mediums and techniques.
Art is my passion, my life. Creating art allows me to truly express myself. It gives me the ability to live in more than just one world. Pen and Ink allows me to focus on perspective and detail, light and dark. Oil Pastels give me the chance to create another world all together and break all of the rules. It doesn't just allow me to think outside of a box, it allows me to create a place where the box doesn't exist.
Art is where I find balance.
Any other path I have explored has just shown me that I am doing what I was always meant to do. This would not be possible without the teachers I have had but, most of all, the full support of my family and my boyfriend Chris. My Mom is also an artist and has always encouraged me to follow my dream.
Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy sharing it with you and I invite you to stay and take this journey with me!
